Networking. Something any business owner needs to do whether they like it or not.

But there are some easy ways to use our network that many of us either forget about or don’t feel comfortable doing.

Everyone always says, “Hey, reach out if you need anything,” or “Ask for help if you need it,” right?

And then, when it comes time to ask for help, it feels like you’re asking for a kidney. 😰

You want to word it just the right way, and you don’t want to be salesy. 🤑

I guess my point here is that I don’t know why we make asking for help so dramatic. 🙄

So, today, I reached out to someone in my network and asked for help!

This is someone whom I would consider a colleague. I’ve worked with them before, and I’ve known them for a really long time, and they know my work.

So, I sent a text to reconnect with this person. 👋

I saw an article about his company’s layoffs, and unfortunately, yes, he was laid off. There was a pretty sizable reorganization that caused it. 👎🏻

I know just from the time I’ve known him that the company has gone through several other reorgs in that time, and he’s always been able to keep his job, but unfortunately, not this time.

So what’s great about this is I could ask him if he wanted an introduction to someone I know in the same industry who is responsible for hiring people like him. ⛓️

What’s great about how this worked out is the following:

🅰️I think I’ve been able to help this colleague that I initially was going to ask for help, but obviously, it’s not the right time for that.

🅱️I was able to start a conversation with another friend of mine who may be putting him in touch with this colleague, and it will make his job easier, and he is getting a great candidate.

It definitely turned out differently than I expected but still cool. 😊

It’s amazing what conversations will lead to if you take the first step to have them! ❤️
