Have you been in that dreaded place where you post something that should get a great response and it simply doesn’t?

There is a real reason that you want to get more Likes, Comments and Shares on Facebook.  Facebook says that 90% of posts are read through the Newsfeed. Facebook uses Edge Rank to determine what shows on the Newsfeed and Likes, Comments and Shares are figured into that algorithm. That means, if your post doesn’t get Likes, Comments and Shares, it is like the post never happened and it doesn’t show in the Newsfeed.

We want you to show up in the Newsfeed so here are two tips to engage and be relevant with your audience.

1. Ask Questions.

  • Ask questions that start with what, when or where.  These easy to answer questions always outperform “why” simply because they are quick and easy.
  • Use fill in the blanks.  This lets people know that all you want is one simple word and they really won’t have to think about it.

2. What’s actually happening.  This is sometimes controversial.  I believe your best social media team is your current workforce (with the proper training of course). The reason is this.  There is a clear disconnect between the agency and what is actually happening.  If you are giving your social presence solely to an agency, you are losing these rich relationship building opportunities. If you have an in-house team, you can focus on these types of posts to increase activity.

  • Photos of behind the scenes things like what your office looks like, a trade show, speaking engagements, networking events.
  • Photos of happy customers using your product or service.
  • Photos of new products.

I challenge you this week to put two of these ideas in action and let us know what the response is in the comment section below.
